Remark on nonlinearity of PV characteristics: In Figure 5.84, the PV power is a nonlinear function of according to the PV power versus voltage characteristics. This characteristics is a function of solar irradiance, temperature, partial shading, PV panels' manufacturing brand, and even some other ambient conditions, and aging of panels. So, much uncertainties and changes are involved. Our approach has been to simply ignore and not model any of these in the control model! The robustness of the proposed optimally-designed controller, verified by simulating the system within various operating conditions and severe disturbances, indicates that such an approach is sound and better than trying to explicitly address those nonlinearities.
